Sloane Square Underground Noise Reduction

We are pleased that progress is being made regarding the problems of the noise from  Sloane Square underground trains below Belgravia.  We received a recent letter from a satisfied member who had definitely noticed the difference since their return from abroad.  The B.R.A. has been actively lobbying to reduce the disturbance caused by this and it looks like things are getting done.

Letter from Member to James Wright, The Chairman

“We are just back from some travelling and we have noticed a marked improvement on the noise from the underground so I just thought I would let you know.   Thanks for letting us know about the ‘grinding’ etc of the rails – we are definitely not hearing the trains.”

James Wright’s reply
I am pleased that the noise and vibration levels have reduced in your home.
The fundamental problem is that the grinding is only a short term solution and what is needed in the long term is for the rails to be completely replaced.
However we have been able to achieve the following: -

1. Get London Underground on our side and they have admitted the current situation is not satisfactory and the levels of noise and vibration are too high.
2. They will return in the autumn  and grind both sets of track again over a 2 night period.
(it costs circa £35,000 per night to get the grinding train and team )
3. Look to completely changing the track in 2/3 years time in view of the consistent problems and nature of the complainants !
4. Agree to schedule an annual grinding run of both tracks until such time as a more long term solution is found.
5. Continue with new vigour to investigate and find better ways to manage the water ingress problem which sees much of the track sub soil waterlogged  and try and come up with a solution to drain off that water more effectively.
Hope this helps and hope you had a wonderful holiday.
